Incremental variable splitting

چکیده
The variable splitting method for free-variable calculi provides an admissibility condition under which the same free variables can be assigned values independently on different branches. While this has a large potential for automated proof search, a direct implementation of this condition is impractical. We adapt the incremental closure framework for free variables to variable splitting tableaux by recasting the admissibility condition for closing substitutions into a constraint satisfaction problem. The resulting mechanism allows to check the existence of an admissible closing substitution incrementally during the construction of a proof. We specify a rule-based algorithm for testing satisfiability of constraints that accounts for split variables, and present experimental results based on a prototype variable splitting theorem prover implementation.

Incremental Closure of Variable Splitting Tableaux
Incremental closure is a proof search technique for free variable analytic tableaux where partial solutions are updated along with tableaux expansion. In this paper we address possible adaptations of the incremental closure technique to variable splitting tableaux. Variable splitting tableaux provide a sound way to instantiate occurrences of the same variable in different branches differently b...
متن کاملIncremental Proof Search in the Splitting Calculus Thesis presented for the degree of Candidatus Scientiarum
This thesis presents an incremental proof search procedure based on a variable splitting sequent calculus for first-order logic without equality. By means of an index system for formulae, the calculus generates variable sharing derivations in which γ-inferences for different occurrences of the same formula introduce identical variables. Formula indices are utilized to keep track of how variable...

Incremental stack-copying was used to implement OR-parallel Prolog efficiently in the MUSE system. The idea of incremental stack-copying is to only copy the difference between the WAM data areas of two processors, instead of copying them entirely. In order to further reduce the communication during stack-copying and make its implementation efficient on distributed memory machines, a new techniq...
متن کاملImage Restoration by Variable Splitting based on Total Variant Regularizer
The aim of image restoration is to obtain a higher quality desired image from a degraded image. In this strategy, an image inpainting method fills the degraded or lost area of the image by appropriate information. This is performed in such a way so that the obtained image is undistinguishable for a casual person who is unfamiliar with the original image. In this paper, different images are degr...
متن کاملA Near-Optimum Channel Access Protocol Based on Incremental Collision Resolution and Distributed Transmission Queues
We introduce a new stable multiple access protocol for broadcast channels shared by multiple stations, which we call the incremental collision resolution multiple access (ICRMA) protocol. ICRMA dynamically divides the channel into cycles of variable length; each cycle consists of a contention period and a queuetransmission period. The queue-transmission period is a variable-length train of pack...
